Hello! My contract is ending at the end of September and my elacademy is looking to hire a new native Engish teacher starting in October
-We teach mostly elementary school students, and there is one advanced class with 3 middle school students
-Class sizes are 2-10 students, typically about 6
-Ive worked here for two years and only decided not to renew because Im moving to a small city to enjoy a quieter lifestyle
-Location: Mokdong, Seoul Salary: 2.5 million KRW per month (depending on education and experience) Benefits: Housing provided or housing allowance, severance pay, 10 days of vacation, sick days, insurancepension (50%) All curriculum is provided
-Working Hours: M-F 1:00 PM to 9:30 PM (one hour dinner break daily, youre free to go out to eat)
-The average daily schedule is: 1:00-2:05 planning time, 3:40-4:20 planning time, 6:35-7:35 dinner
-The remaining hours are teaching, but we and the students have a 5 minute break between every class period
-Requirements:
-Native English speaker from USA, Canada, UK, Australia, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand eligible for E2-visa (due to the timeline, teachers in Korea are preferred, but candidates outside Korea will also be considered)
-Bachelors degree (any field).
-Must be able to provide documents to be cleared for teaching by the Department of Education in South Korea
-Preferred qualifications: Experience working with young learners and classroom management
-Exemplary reading, and writing skills
-TEFLTESOL certification is a benefit but not required
-As I said, Im finishing up my second year here and have not had any issues
-I am the only native teacher, but all the other Korean teachers and staff are friendly and speak English so there has never been a communication issue
-The directors are only strict about arriving to work on time, but do not micromanage or put pressure on you otherwise
-As long as you teach the curriculum based on their training and stay on schedule, you are welcome to be creative with activities, games, and other aspects of lessons
-You are never expected to interact with parents, and I have only had one parent complaint in my two years here, which the directors believed my side and resolved the situation
-I never take work home, work weekends, and have never been asked to work overtime
-Twice a year there is a company lunch before work starts and they buy us a nice meal
-The company handles logistics of things like pay, taxes, enrollment in health insurance and pension which is very convenient
-As for the location, its close to the Han river and only about a 15min bus ride from popular destinations like Hongdae and Yeouido
-The neighborhood is quiet and safe
-Ive honestly enjoyed my time here, but the big city life isnt for me anymore.
